Books before life, raster before vector, writing before social life.
Yes, that is my re-imagined, personal version of Brandon Sanderson's famous quote from the Stormlight Archives. No, I am not ashamed of the fact that it has become my new motto.
How do I even begin to introduce myself? By way of summary I think I can accurately call myself a writer, illustrator, and storyteller. The most accurate definition of what I do can be summed up as an artist. But that leaves out all the best parts, my inner philosopher, my love of the outdoors, hiking and tree-climbing and swimming, my complete and utter obsession with epic fantasy and the works of the great, and yet unmatched William Shakespeare.
In essence, I am an illustrator and a storyteller. I've been doing both since I had the capacity to do so. I have been drawing since I conceived the idea as a toddling little brute, and writing since I regretfully turned the last page of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. All my life has been full of these things, good books, good art, and deep thoughts, and I can't imagine a life without them.
I grew up in Utah, for the most part, when I wasn't spending time in Narnia, Du Weldenvarden, Hogwarts, Egypt, Old England, France, Middle Earth, or in any similar place stuck in a mess of ink and good paper. I love fairytales and believe deeply that the most honest and real thing in the world are the stories we tell.
My goals are many and varied, but essentially are to be able to support myself as an artist and entertainer, and one day present at a panel at a Comic Con (silly, I know, but hey.)
